Open Plan Kitchen Extension
Greasby Wirral

About the build

The problem that we wanted to overcome was that we had a 20 year old conservatory that was badly in need of repair or replacement. We found the conservatory to also be a place where extremes of temperature meant that it was virtually unused – too cold in winter and too hot in summer. We also had a kitchen that was in desperate need of modernisation, and decisions needed to be made as to whether we went for a refit or a bigger extension to keep the downstairs space that we had with the conservatory.

We liked the idea of bi-fold doors, and the concept of bringing the outside in, but were unsure as to the best design that would be achievable. We hoped that the end result would provide us with a better quality of life, better social space and a modern kitchen.

We met with Paul who suggested that it was feasible that we could open up the back of the property. He put us in touch with a competent architect who gave us a number of options.

Paul provided us with a comprehensive and detailed estimate from the outset. Any changes were notified to us in good time, and were minimal. He provided options and experience where required, e.g regarding different heating options – under floor or radiators. He provided us with samples of the bricks to be used, and the roofing tiles. The location of the drains could have been an issue but Paul considered this and proactively ensured that problems did not arise. Although there were many decisions to be made, they were introduced at a pace that was manageable, well in advance and we always felt that we were listened to and were in control of our own build and budget. Paul introduced and project managed a team of other tradesmen, including heating engineers, electricians, plasters, roofers, etc and worked closely with the joiner to ensure that all the work was completed in a timely and efficient manner.

All the team were skilled, competent and worked to an extremely high standard. They arrived punctually, were friendly and polite, and tidy within the constraints of the building site. They ensured that the disruption, which was inevitable, was kept to a minimum. They always left the site tidy and secure. Every member of the team seemed to go above and beyond that which was required.

The build required the fixture of large steel beams, which were challenging for the team to put in place, but this progressed smoothly and, although it presented challenges, these were expertly overcome with minimal fuss. Where changes were needed during the final fixtures, e.g. positioning of lights and changes were made, the team ensured that everything was made good to the same high standard.

The finished product

From Mr & Mrs Dean

“The outcome of the project is beyond all our expectations, and has already provided us with a much enhanced quality of life. The light and space, which were a concern, are magnificent. All that have visited have commented on the ambience of the room – it certainly has that “wow” factor. We feel that Paul provided a very supportive service, that was reasonably priced and came in on budget. We would have no hesitation to use Paul and his team again should the need arise. At last we feel that we have found a good and reliable team. We would, and have already, recommended him to others.”
